TSBR Troopies Update: 7.28

Hello to all of our pawsome family, friends and followers. We definitely have a lot going on and we're excited to share some updates with all of you!

Harley Updates: Three Scoops of Vanilla Fundraiser and Last Weigh-In

First and foremost, save-the-date for THIS Wednesday, July 30th as we have been chosen as the recipient for another 3 Scoops of Vanilla fundraiser for our Harley-boy. If you remember the last one, it was a fantastic rescue necklace and this time around it’s a gorgeous bracelet that you are sure to love!

Harley will be featured on the Three Scoops of Vanilla's Facebook page, where one of her stunning necklace creations will be auctioned off with 100% of the high bid going directly to Harley's vet care!

Three Scoops of Vanilla will also sell a bracelet for $45.00 the day of Harley's event, of that, TSBR will receive $10.00 from each necklace sold. Our last Three Scoops of Vanilla fundraiser raised over $1000 towards Harley's vet care and we are beyond excited about this one as well!

Harley Health Update: Slow and Steady
Harley continues to be visibly thin, however he has put on a tremendous amount of muscle which is critical to his metabolism, mobility, and energy production. He now weighs approximately 74 pounds, which was up 2.5lbs from his last weigh-in. Our next goal for him is 80! That is a far cry from the below 60 place we found him!

http://www.retrieveafriend.org/info/donate
If you’d like to help us with Harley’s care please make a donation here, all amounts are welcome and so appreciated. If you’d prefer to make a physical donation and happen to have access to “Lactated Ringers,” (Sodium Chloride or LR fluids) we will GLADLY accept them, along with standard needle or needle-less IV tube sets, and 18 gauge needles.

That's all for now, thank you again for your support and love.

Mail call...and update!

Good Morning Harley World ~

Who ever invented a bacon scented ORANGE rubber ball for dogs must have envisioned Harley! Jon F. and his furries: Chloe and Milo, went shopping together for Harley Boo, and then drove all the way to Denton to expedite delivery of his toys, new ball, and marshmallows - Wow! As you can see, Harley hung out with his foster brother Moon and shared everything but his ball, lol. Thank y'all so much!

Can you believe we are starting week 7 of TSBR's Extreme Makeover Harley Edition.

For a dog we didn't expect to live 24 hours, the joy of watching him thrive and check off items on his bucket list has been unimaginable and a tremendous honor.

Last week Harley had a few rough spots with his appetite, but has since recovered it and despite that bump in the road has managed to gain half of a pound! Harley also got his nails trimmed, blood drawn (results still pending), ears cleaned and treated, and a thorough check over that gave him 2 thumbs up!

Keep those bucket list items coming as we work as a community to show everyone that 1 dog most certainly can make a difference, and the message is a loud and clear, "They matter...each and every one of them!"

We continue to look for ways that we can better his quality of life, and make the most of it, while attempting to manage and correct the damage from years of neglect and abuse. Our latest plan includes a consult with a Veterinary nephrologist (Renal specialist) as well as dental consult, to see if we can help Harley's appetite. New medications to help lower his BUN, increase appetite, and combat his anemia are in the works as well.

We will also be engaging a Veterinary acupuncturist to assist with joint pain and blood flow to the kidneys and extremities, and hope to engage a Reiki master to help bring positive energy into his battered body.

Those of our supporters who have had the opportunity to either interact with Harley or watch his adventures, know that he is worth every moment of our time, every penny we can all spare, and every prayer and hope our hearts can provide.

An outing with Harley always brings opportunities to engage the public...it starts with stares and whispers over his thin appearance, and ends with the joy of tears, laughs, a Harley hug and ball toss, but more importantly another educated community member! In between, lies the powerful message that we strive each day to share with Harley's World, and ours.

Harley is indeed a poster child for our educational mission!

We continue to be beyond grateful for your love and support in all forms. We hope to raise the funds necessary over the next two weeks to provide for these additional veterinary expenses that have the potential to offer Harley some very real benefits. We trust that what is meant to be for Harley will be provided.

Thank You from the bottom of his paws...and ours!

Mail Call!

Can you believe what I got??? One of my favorite snacks and a fluffy, wooly toy too. As you can see I loved it right away and I'm not too insecure in my "Harley Rockstarness" to admit it!

Thank you MaryAnne, Richard, Katie and Maddie Miss Kitty too!

❤️❤️❤️~Harley

I've been Harley'n it up today...how bout you?

I

Got some good news and some bad news...oh ok let's have the good news first.

My favorite doc from Rickords Animal Hospital called my peeps this morning to chat about my labs...no not my foster brothers and sisters...the ones they stick me for each week to see how I'm doin.

Well guess what...yeah I guess in some ways it was a mixed bag, but the really good news is nothing real bad. In fact, my creatine is down almost 4points and so doc says I need to try real hard to eat my special meds  this week so I can bring down my bun, and I thought buns were what my chicken sandwiches came on...silly me.

Anywho - so I have some work to do still, but they all agree, that what matters is not a number, but how I feel...

Well that brings me to the not so good news...you see I felt so good today that I got a little carried  away, and well...(GULP),

I kinda had an accident with my new friend lampchop...but don't worry, I'm just fine...

But poor lammy - well, um, he had to see the mommers for emergency repairs...

I'm so sorry Maddie and Katie - I guess I got so excited I just shook, and shook, and shook lammy, and well...see for yourself!

Mommers said it was okay...that no one in Harley World would be mad either...(but boy oh boy did I have fun).

Okay gotta go - I'm off to second dinners, and hide and seek...

It's Harley Time!

Can you believe we are starting Week 3 of TSBR's Extreme Make-Over: Harley Edition.

That's right today marks day 14 of Harley's freedom from his prior owners that starved and deprived him of care and comfort, leaving him on deaths door step.

Mail Call!!

Harley attended the staff meeting!

Good Morning TSBR Troopies and Harley fans...

Friday was a busy day for our Sweet Yellow Boy and we wanted to be able to give you
a full update. So here goes...

Harley wanted to start by giving a big SHOUT out to some extra special folks and
thank them for his sussies and mail:

  • Paws and nose bumps to Megan H. for the beautiful handmade quilt she made and sent to Harley all the way from Montana! Wow
  • Wet furry nudges to the Gilbert's, Tex, and Hunter who made it possible to give Harley his first toys to keep him busy while he heals. Harley particularly liked the squeaky blue bird.
  • BIG Harley shakes to his benefactors across our nation who have taken Harley's story to heart and are joining us on our mission to ensure he does NOT suffer one more day and his abusers don't win...your financial support is helping Harley have life and live it! What a blessing.
Not only did Harley enjoy his mail, but he loves his Veterinary team and handler Kari so much, he convinced them he would be a good boy if they'd let him come to their staff meeting...what a ham!

Harley - Week 2

Happy Tuesday to our TSBR Troopies and Harley's fan club!

We know everyone has been patiently awaiting our Sweet Yellow Boy "Harley's" next update.

The weekend we wished for him brought more frustrating news for Harley and us!

However - he no doubt was happy to meet his new TSBR friend Jill who traveled to see him Saturday, and showed his enthusiasm at her visit by sitting and shaking on command, and then promptly plopping his head in her hands and resting.

He was also visited by Lori and Hope Monday who assist with our Animal Welfare team. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who both drove nearly 10hrs round trip to make sure Harley had what he needed and give us a much needed update on his emotional state.

Harley - Days 4 and 5

Vroom, Vroom...

We think Harley is trying hard to rev up his engine!

The past 24 hours have been filled with multiple meals - each 2 cans of KD strong and now he is also eating dry with the canned and eating it all. He is also drinking on his own. This is really great news!

There is quiet simply NOTHING like seeing a starved dog take the step to eat on his own. His intestinal tract is working well and it seems this is at least one area we can put a smiley face in the column on Harley's to-do list.

Harley - Day 3

"Harley is so sweet. I don't think he's had much human interaction. He is patient and is warming up to being loved on. There is such sadness in his eyes, I did get a tail wag though. He has clearly been abused for a very long time. I just can't get over how sweet he is. I told him he was safe, no one would ever hurt him again and if he was strong enough we would fight for him. He winked at me. So I think he understood." Suzanne E.

Harley - Day 2

48 hours have passed since this sweet yellow boy lay helpless on a cold hard floor. His bones rubbing on the concrete and his heart devoid of hope.

Today he struggles for his life, but it's surrounded by warmth, soft bedding, good food, people that are gentle and kind, and a community that has more hope than we know what to do with!

His emotional needs are being met, yet his physical needs are difficult at best to combat. What we now know, and have confirmed medically, is that it is not cancer but instead years of systematic neglect has taken an unforgiving toll on this gentle boys once sturdy and handsome body.

Too anemic to produce his own new red blood cells, and kidneys that are barely functioning are sandwiched around a case of heartworm disease that is as infested in every part of his body as the ticks that fed on what barely remained of him. His prostate is enlarged and diseased and requires a neuter to rid his body of it...yet he is too weak and fragile to undergo such a procedure.

Yet despite his plight, he is as gentle and sweet as they come.

Harley's prognosis is brutally poor.

Harley

Harley was seized by authorities because his owners were starving him to death.

He was laying...dying on a cold, hard shelter floor. Through the efforts of amazing volunteers, Texas Sporting Breed Rescue was able to take this boy from the shelter to a local veterinarian clinic to stabilize and assess his condition.

Spring has sprung!

My foster mom and I check the garden every day. I love to go outside and take a break from my babies. I really enjoy helping foster mom with gardening and such. We found our sugar snap peas (as pictured below but hard to see) are growing leaps and bounds just like my babies!

Friday, April 18

Applications

I wanted to take a moment to remind you that if you have been waiting to apply for me or one of my sweet babies now is the time! It can take a couple weeks to go through the process and I want to meet all of you and see if you would be a great fit for me or my babies! Please feel free to roam the TSBR website and apply we would love to meet you!

Snuggle training continued

Foster mom says snuggle training is going really well.

Tuesday, April 15

I am so tired

Sometimes it's just not worth it to fix what's wrong. My baby slept like this for 10 minutes.

Friday, April 11

Again!

My foster mom says I am just trying to be so cute she wants to adopt me but really I  am lover not a fighter and I really really love having babies to snuggle with, I like humans also but foster mom says I still have a lot to teach these sweet puppies so I have to stay with them more than the humans.

Thursday, April 10

Still my babies

Even though my sweet puppy's are growing I still love to snuggle with them.

Monday, April 7

Sunday weigh in

Sorry for the delayed post, my babies grew so much they don't fit on the "baby scale" anymore so we had to work through it - 21 lbs last week 30 this week!

Friday, April 4

Teeth

These sweet puppies are making it harder and harder to feed them everyday!

Thursday, April 3

Night time studying

My babies need a lot of sleep to grow big and strong so tonight we practiced the art of using a blanket.

Wednesday, April 2

Snuggles

We have had a busy few days. My puppies are getting so big. I had to work hard with Foster mommy to figure out how to keep all my puppies in their kennel, they are just so smart! Project snuggle is going on tonight, foster mom says she works hard to make she sure they are all happy and that sometimes she has to snuggle with them to make sure they are happy (I think he just realizes how amazing my puppies are!)

Sunday, March 30

Sunday night weigh in!

The picture posted earlier was a Polar Bear!!!! Yes a polar bear, this is one of my sweet puppies! Notice the darker/larger spread on the nose coloring.
I also had foster mommy take a picture of the puppies for weekly "weigh in", feel free to guess the weight this week. They are growing like weeds it seems! They have even started to walk and climb over each other.

Polar bear or puppy?

Is this a polar bear or puppy? We will let you know tonight with weigh in stats for the week! Have a great Sunday!

Saturday, March 29

Saturday beauty

Good evening! We are having great weekend here. I got to take a break from the puppies today and rest outside while the humans worked on what they called "yard work". The puppies are growing so fast but I am doing a fantastic job and loving, feeding and caring for them. Some of the puppies have started wagging their tails when they feed but foster mom says it's hard to catch for all my fans.

Tuesday, March 25

Fostering with love

One of the best parts of Texas Sporting Breed Rescue is the volunteers! I know they love me and want the best for my babies. Even the smallest of them try their hardest to make me and my babies feel loved.

Puppy eyes!

Keep an eye out in the next couple of days as the puppies will soon be opening their eyes!

Sunday, March 23

Come on over and guess the weight!

Foster mom and dad weighed the puppies today. I was not sure what to think with them being out of my control for so long. But they returned them quickly. They also took a picture of a couple pups right next to a normal canned vegetable so you can see how big we are and they will continue this for weeks to come so you can see our growth in a weeks time! Can you guess how much we weigh as a group??? Answer will be denoted in the comment section Monday by noon! Have fun guessing!

Puppy toes!

Sweet little puppy toes for your viewing pleasure. One of the best parts of having 7 sweet babies is all the puppy parts. We all took the day to rest. I relaxed and had some time with my puppies, we all need a lazy Saturday now and then.

Saturday, March 22

Puppy pile!

Foster mom worked all morning to wash and clean every part of my puppy place, she says it was all worth it for this puppy pile when she was done!

Discovery

While cleaning and playing with puppies today my foster mom noticed a little white mark under one of the puppies chest. It's a teeny tiny itsy bitsy white spot....can you see it?

Saturday morning shenanigans

Good morning friends!

Yesterday I decided to show my foster mom just how smart I was! See, foster mom put a gate around her pool so I would not take leisurely soaks at my own desire, she says it makes her house a mess and the puppies wet, all I know is I am hot and this nice big pool helps cool me off! Foster mom decided to put up this gate around the pool. The first time I saw it I looked at it, quickly walked all the way around the pool to the spa, walked on the ledge of the spa and made it to the step to get in. This is where my foster mom caught me....soooo close! I try to be very obedient so I stopped immediately when she called me, next time I will have to be sneakier! Foster mom says I am too smart for my own good, I am gorgeous, potty trained and one of the most relaxed labs she has ever seen! She also says I am an awesome mommy.

What's not to love!

Friday, March 21

Good Night, Sleep Tight

Today was a day filled with eating and sleeping, it's the perfect day for me as a new mom. Notice how my puppies ears are starting to flop out, they are starting to lay down instead of being pressed down against her head backwards.

Snuggles for All

Good morning troopers. My name is Marelli. I had 7 beautiful babies in the past week. I like to snuggle with them and tell them sweet mommy secrets on how to be an awesome grown up dog one day. Follow this blog with pictures and a few fun stories about growing up puppies.
